OPERATION MANUAL
UV12A to UV50AT

Ver dated: 1999.06.01

POINTS FOR INSTALLATION AND OPERATION

  1. Don't watch the ultraviolet rays emitting out of the UV lamp, since they will cause serious burn for unprotected eyes.
  2. Unplug when maintaining without the protection of the housing of the UV germicidal unit.
P.S. Replace the UV lamp yearly to ensure the germicidal function, while it is valid for 9000 hours.

READ THIS MANUAL CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING THE UV GERMICIDAL UNIT AND KEEP IT FOR LATER REFERENCE.

IMPORTANT EXCERPTS
Install the UV germicidal unit only under the following condition:
  • Total Iron ------ not more than 0.3 PPM (0.3 mg/l)
  • Hydrogen Sulfide ----- not more than 0.05 PPM (0.05 mg/l)
  • Suspended Solids ----- not more than 10 PPM (10 mg/l)
  • Manganese ------ not more than 0.05 PPM (0.05 mg/l)
  • Hardness ------ not more than 7 gpg*
*Under the conditions that the total hardness of water is not more than 7 gpg and the quartz sleeve is cleansed on schedule, the UV germicidal unit will work efficiently. If the total hardness is over 7 gpg, water should be softened.

The knack of the UV germicidal unit lies in the special gadget making water irradiated by the strong ultraviolet rays and getting pure water without bacteria, viruses, algae and fungi. Moreover, the UV germicidal unit does not apply potentially harmful chemicals and it works in a safe way without keeping any disinfectant in your drinking water.

THE INSTALLATION FOR THE UV GERMICIDAL UNIT

The UV germicidal unit could be set up horizontally (inlet / outlet upside) or upright (rubber boot in upper side and inlet in lower side) under the sink in the kitchen and linked to a filter or reverse osmosis system.

THE UV GERMICIDAL UNIT SHOULD BE PLACED AT THE END OF THE FILTER AND IT WILL WORK TO PUSH ALL THE UV PROCESSED WATER TO THE FAUCET.

  1. Don't touch the glass of the quartz sleeve when assembling the UV germicidal lamp.
  2. Install the germicidal unit on the wall or link to your filter system.
  3. Check out all the joints and wrench the faucet open to see if there is water leakage before plugging in.
  4. Insert your lamp into the quartz sleeve inside the stainless housing. Then insert the lamp plug (attached to the ballast) into the UV lamp and make sure the rubber boot is put on the aluminum nut. Plug in and check if the UV lamp is irradiating. To prevent the UV lamp from swaying, tightly bind the rubber boot with the attached nylon cable tie.
P.S.: For the primary use, wait 3-5 minutes to make the UV germicidal unit work well. To get rid of air or impurities, wrench the faucet open and make water flow through the UV germicidal unit for 2-3 minutes.

POINTS FOR OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE

WATCH OUT!
Be sure to unplug before disassembling the UV germicidal unit.

  1. Check up the UV germicidal unit on schedule to ensure the normal operation of the UV lamp. If the UV lamp is out of order, the alarm within the ballast will sound off and on.
  2. Be sure to replace the UV lamp after consecutive consumption for 9,000 hours or a year in order to ensure a high germicidal rate. Pay attention to keep turning on the UV lamp, since capriciously turning on and off will terribly shorten the service life of the UV lamp. The UV germicidal unit is equipped with an accumulative digital timer. Loosen the screw at the side of the timer when replacing the UV lamp. And press the inner part with a thin stick to set it back to zero and compute the time again. After resetting, screw it up to avoid inaccurate time computing by a careless touch.
  3. While replacing the UV lamp, you will have to cut off the nylon cable tie, remove the rubber boot and pull out the lamp plug (attached to the ballast) from the UV lamp. Don't touch the quartz glass, since spots or fingerprints will hinder the irradiation of the UV lamp. Fasten the rubber boot and bind it with a new nylon cable tie after putting the UV lamp inside the stainless steel UV housing. Then plug in and check out if the LED indicator keeps irradiating steadily.
  4. If there is hardness substance (such as calcium or magnesium) or iron and manganese, the quartz sleeve should be cleansed on schedule. Remove the UV lamp before taking out the quartz sleeve and follow the step referred as POINT 3 and cleanse the quartz sleeve by the following steps:
    1. Shut up the sources of water.
    2. Open up the gathering hole at the bottom of the germicidal unit, relieve the water pressure and discharge water from the pipe. (You may put a bucket under the UV germicidal unit to catch the discharged water.)
    3. Wrench off the aluminum nuts at both sides of the UV housing.
    4. Carefully remove the seal O-ring inside the quartz sleeve. Recommend to replace the seal O-ring yearly, since it possibly will adhere to the quartz sleeve.
    5. Soak a piece of cloth in vinegar or citric to cleanse the quartz sleeve.
    6. Put the quartz sleeve back into the stainless steel UV housing and make equal distance at both sides of the quartz sleeve while it is put through the UV housing.
    7. Dampen the seal O-ring and make smooth the two sides of the quartz sleeve. Then wrench on the aluminum nuts (with hands).
    8. Fasten all the joints. Wrench the faucet open and check out if there is water leakage.
    9. Insert UV lamp into the UV housing and fasten the rubber boot according to the preceding instructions.
    10. Plug in and make sure that the LED lamp is irradiating steadily.

WARRANTY

The manufacturer guarantees the consumers against the defects of the UV germicidal unit in material and technology. From the purchase date on, the warranty lasts for a year. The limited warranty focuses on the non-manmade flaws about the UV germicidal unit and is offered only to original users and installers. The manufacturer is not responsible for man-made damage. Uner the repairable condition, it is feasible to charge for the repairs.
